Tender
Much time and effort has been spent getting the tender front brake shaft bearings to align correctly. There appears to be a subtle difference in the mounting of the brake cylinder brackets onto which the brake shaft bearing brackets are fixed. This was found using our optical alignment telescope and will shortly be remedied with a little machining work.
The new brake shaft bearing brackets have since been marked up and bolt holes drilled.
Locomotive
Discussions continue with a contractor to complete the platework repairs on the boiler, but in the short term it is likely that the boiler will be put back on the loco, to check it still fits correctly and progress some fitting work.
The 32 large superheater header bolts have been sorted and the useable bolts have been stripped of seized nuts and washers. Replacement bolts and nuts have been ordered, as part of a larger order with other Bulleid groups.
New gauge glass lamps made by one of our volunteers, have been painted. Work to clean boiler cladding continues as weather conditions allow.
We are also looking to arrive at a final cost figure for the replacement of all the parts stolen from our container in order to settle the insurance claim. To that end, there have been many hours spent trawling drawings and part lists, gathering information to send to companies for parts and materials quotes.
A quote has been obtained for the replacement of all the stolen inside valve gear and an order has been placed.
